Licensing (GenXDefinition)

Effective date: [2025-01-17]

This page explains how GenXDefinition content is licensed, and how third-party licenses apply.

This is informational and not legal advice.

1) Website text, documentation, and research content

Unless otherwise stated, the following are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0):

You may: share and adapt the material for non-commercial use, as long as you provide attribution and release adaptations under the same license.

You may not: use the licensed material for commercial purposes without separate permission.

(See CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license details and attribution requirements.)

2) Generated scripts (Custom GPT “Output”)

GenXDefinition can generate C# scripts intended to be pasted into a Grasshopper C# scripting component. These scripts reference public APIs (e.g., RhinoCommon / Grasshopper) and assemble definitions on the user’s machine.

2.1 Ownership of Output

When GenXDefinition is used inside ChatGPT, ownership of Output is governed by OpenAI’s Terms. As between you and OpenAI, you own the Output to the extent permitted by applicable law.

2.2 Third-party rights still apply

Output may include or reference third-party materials. Any third-party code remains under its original license. If a generated script contains identifiable third-party snippets, the script should include an attribution comment (or you should add one before redistributing).

3) Rhino / Grasshopper dependencies (no redistribution)

GenXDefinition does not distribute Rhino or Grasshopper and does not provide any binaries/components that ship with Rhino/Grasshopper.

4) SDK licensing note

Rhino/Grasshopper developer SDKs/APIs (including RhinoCommon and the Grasshopper API) are published by McNeel under the MIT License. Your use of those APIs remains subject to their license terms and the Rhino EULA.

5) Trademarks

“Rhino” and “Grasshopper” are trademarks of Robert McNeel & Associates.

“OpenAI”, “ChatGPT”, and “GPT” are trademarks of OpenAI.

Use on this site is nominative (for identification only). No endorsement or affiliation is implied.
